Alloy Bolts
In response to the question about replacing Jeanneau Melody alloy bolts, Tony Day wrote:
Alloy screws and nuts appear to have been widely used throughout the boat and in many cases have been "cut to length" with bolt croppers after fitting which means that they are virtually impossible to unbolt.
Up to now I have only investigated this in a superficial manner. My local Nut'n Bolt store in Brighton, Namrick carries a very limited range of Ally machine screws anodised in various colours. These are marketed in "Bubble packs " and are, naturally expensive. I did enquire if they could stock a range of Alloy or better Titanium machine screws as they do with S/S, however they reckoned that there wouldn't be sufficient demand, they suggested that I investigate suppliers of glazing materials, apparently alloy double glazing and greenhouse structures use aluminum bolts, this I have not done.
Another possibility is finding a supplier of Aircraft General Supplies, aluminium and Titanium being commonally used on aircraft, however until now I havn't found one of those either but they have to be around somewhere:-).
However your question has prompted me to do a search on the web which has drawn my attention to trhe fact that both Ally and Titanium are in demand by the Motor Sport fraternity both bike and car.
The most promising I have found is a company Nylon And Alloys Ltd in Hanwell. Their Web Site is http://www.nylonalloys.co.uk. A good idea of their product range but no prices.
If there isn't much difference in price then Titanium is by far the best material to go for
Peter Green also suggests Hydrobolt a UK company that states, no quantity restrictions on small batches.
