Polish Factory
Since the 2001 acquisition of Ostrada yachts by Groupe Beneteau, the plant has benefited from major reinvestment and now employes around 250 staff, with expectations that some 2000 craft will be produced next year following a further 3 million euro investment by Jeanneau. In addition to its own products Ostrada build a number of smaller power craft for both Jeanneau and Beneteau. In 2004 it is reported that Ostrada will be constructing a new Jeanneau 8m sailing yacht.
Information from International Boat Industry August 2003
On the last day of the Paris Boat Show, 14 December 2001, Bénéteau
Group signed a deal that gave it overall control of the Polish Ostroda
Yachts yard.
The deal gave Bénéteau 57 percent of the Polish yard, based in
Ostróda, 160.9 kilometres north of Warsaw.
But while the deal was done by the Bénéteau Group, the daily
operation of the yard will be under Jeanneau control, said
communications manager Roland Fardeau.
Wide range of boats
The Polish yard builds a wide range of boats, from a 2.6-metre,
two-man rowing dinghy to the 8.95-metre, Sole-engined, Pronav 30
motor cruiser, and has been building boats for Jeanneau for about 10
years.
"We did some sailboats with Ostroda around seven years ago, but
this deal will be only for powerboats," said Fardeau. "We had a very
good Paris Boat Show and made record sales of our motorboats."
The yard employs approximately 170 staff, said Fardeau. Some
Jeanneau staff will travel to the Polish yard from the French Les
Herbiers base, although there will be no permanent Jeanneau staff at
the Ostróda plant.
