The 2006 UK Marine Industry Regatta will be run on Wednesday, April 26 2006
out of Port Solent in Sunsail's Jeanneau Sun Fast 37s.
Last year's event attracted 30 boats and was won by Practical Boat Owner
editorial, with the two Rockley Watersports entries finishing 2nd and 3rd.
The 2006 event will cost £565 +VAT, plus a £100 charity donation from each
boat to the John Merricks Sailing Trust.
The boats are collected on the Tuesday evening, after which there's a
fleet evening at Chiquitos Mexican restaurant in Port Solent. The cost of
dinner for the eight crew (plus two jugs of marguerita per boat) is
included in the entry fee.
The aim is to run four races in the eastern Solent on the Wednesday with
three to count. The first four boats receive trophies plus crew keepers,
with the winning boat receiving the Lewmar Trophy and bottles of Sunsail
champagne for the crew.
One week after the 2006 was announced we have 16 entries, with two boat
teams from Rockley Watersports, Lewmar and Oval 316. Single boat entries
are in from B&G, boatmatch.com, Bruntons Propellers, Cooney Marine,
Fairline Boats, Lombard Marine Finance and, of course, the event sponsors.
The British Marine Federation (BMF) also has an entry that will be the
prize in an export-based competition between UK and French leisure marine
companies. The Marine Industry Regatta is sponsored by Boating Business,
Practical Boat Owner, Yachting Monthly and Saltwater.
We're looking for 40 entries for the 2006 event - get more information by
emailing regatta@boatingbusiness.co.uk or check the event website at
