Tonic Outboard
We love our Tonic, but with the motor well, close quarters maneuverability when docking was terrible, and our little 2-stroke was noisy under power.
We mostly daysail and race, and only use power when we have to- but when we do, we sometimes need to steer with the motor in tight places
such as crowded marinas. So last year, we reinforced the transom with plywood and installed a lifting bracket, For less drag, we capped the well
with a removable epoxied plywood cover, and covered the side of the well with a snapped-on white SunBrella cover. This gives us a big storage area
for fenders, cushions, cooler, etc..
Now we can turn VELEIRO on a dime when docking, and also get more speed and response and less cavitation when motoring, as well as a quiet
cockpit. The absence of drag gives us much better sailing speed and equal performance on both tacks.
Fair winds-
