EAORA
Invitation to UK Jeanneau Owners
2007 is well upon us now and, as thoughts turn back towards sailing, the East Anglian Offshore Racing Association (EAORA) is putting the finishing touches on another quality programme of offshore racing.
For those of you that don't know, EAORA has been organising and promoting offshore racing on the UK East Coast for over 50 years and many famous sailors (and one Prime Minister) make up its rolls of honour.
2006 was very successful year for the Association with good turn outs for all classes at all of the events, an excellent East Anglian Week (legend in itself) and a new sponsor. There is a real buzz around East Coast offshore racing once more and the Association is tasked with repeating and building upon the previous years successes.
So why not dust some of that racing kit of and come a join in? Several Jeanneaus are already taking part and the mix of classes and abilities mean that there is always somebody to race with. There's not much you need to do to come East Anglian racing and any of the committee members would be only too happy to help you get prepared.
The general format of a weekend is to race somewhere on the Saturday, party like there isn't an early start the next day and then race back on the Sunday. The first one of these weekends (West Mersea to Burnham & Burnham to West Mersea) is the 28th/29th April 2007.
The calendar also incorporates two RORC races - the North Sea Race to Scheveningen and the East Coast race to Ostend, always an experience themselves. The season concludes with West Mersea YC's Buckley Goblets race to Ostend.
And of course, there is EAORA week. This year, after the feeder East Coast race to Ostend, the fleet will race to Breskens before entering the inland waterways. We'll then race round the cans each day before settling into a new harbour each evening. It really is the nicest week away you could imagine.
EAORA racing is synonymous with good sailing and excellent fun. You'll find all the other competitors friendly and happy to help out. Nimrod will be present for pretty much the entire calendar and if I can do anything to help you get involved I'd be delighted.
