Merry Fisher 580
Personal review of a Merry Fisher 580 by Simon Goldthorpe
I bought this boat new in March 2000. It is fitted with a Yamaha 85 two-stroke which gives a consistent 28.5 knots. I have found it to be very easy to handle although at speed it does tend to slam a little. Also in a heavy following sea it tends to wallow a bit but nothing too disturbing.
I was attracted to the size of the aft cockpit area, which is exceptionally large and uncluttered for a boat of this size. We have a couple of fold up chairs, which we regularly have out on deck and this still gives plenty of room for people to move about unhindered. The good-sized walk around is a real bonus and makes single handed operation really easy.
All in all I think it is a great, versatile little boat.
